Treatments for Teenagers

Many malocclusions (“crooked teeth”) can be corrected as soon as children lose their baby teeth. We generally consider correction with fixed appliances (commonly known as braces) around age 11 or 12. The ideal age for this treatment depends on the rate at which permanent teeth erupt. Patients experience a growth spurt at this age, which may help correct certain types of problems such as underdeveloped lower jaw (recessed chin). The techniques and appliances that will be used vary according to the problem to be treated and our patients’ specific requests. The Di Battista Kornbluth clinic only uses state-of-the-art materials, appliances, and techniques. Please see our Appliances section for more details.

The treatment’s duration depends on several factors such as the responsiveness and severity of the problem. The treatment may be shorter if the patient has undergone a first phase of treatment (see the Early Treatments for Children section). We will provide you with a personalized estimate of your orthodontic treatment’s duration during your examination.
