What are lingual braces?
Lingual braces (behind the teeth) were introduced to dental medicine a couple of years ago, however this technique was rarely used since the components had to be handmade, which complicated the treatment and made it less efficient. The most recent advances in CAD/CAM technologies have enabled patients to benefit from a personalised and efficient lingual treatment.
CAD/CAM stands for «computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing». Although this technology was pioneered in the 80s, only recently has it been made accessible and useful to dentistry. Orthodontists have taken advantage of this new technology in an insightful way, now using it to produce custom brackets molded to the patient’s teeth to maximize the efficiency and comfort of lingual treatments.
A patient choosing Incognito™ (lingual) brackets will be benefitting from ergonomic orthodontic products tailored for his/her very own teeth designed and produced using 3D imaging and 3D printers.
Of course, the biggest advantage when it comes to lingual braces is that the braces cannot be seen, the front of the teeth remain seamless. Thanks to this technology, you will be able to smile without hiding your beautiful teeth. This is a wise option for those who thrive on an orthodontic treatment without any esthetic drawback. People whose job requires them to speak in public greatly appreciate this aspect of the lingual brackets. Moreover, artists (actors, singers, etc.) that have been treated at our clinic chose this type of treatment and were absolutely pleased with the results. After quickly getting used to the lingual braces, they were able to climb back onstage and perform at their highest standards.
Also, in contrast with the Invisalign technology which is restricted to simpler cases, a lingual treatment can be applied to any situation regardless of the severity of the patient’s malocclusion. Besides, the Incognito™ brackets are fixed, this eliminates the risk of forgetting to put on appliances, and this could compromise the results of the treatment. It seems relevant to mention that appointments with patients having lingual braces take more time than normal. With that said, isn’t that worth the smile of your dreams?
The Di Battista Rousseau clinic already have over 6 years of experience in lingual treatment and are proud to be working with the Incognito™ technology since it was first introduced to the world of orthodontics in 2009.
